Get prepared for a regular new segment. "Jimmy's Top 10"

10. Sleep, and the opportunity for more sleep.

9. More time to see friends, family.

8. Not going to work.

7. Sport and more Sport (Americans are lucky to have their sporting teams play during the week). Come on Swannies!

6. New movies to see (Movies open on Thursdays meaning the weekend is a good chance to catch new releases).

5. Did someone say 'Board Games'? (Risk, settlers etc)

4. Clean apartment. (Not sure about other people, but I only get a chance to clean the apartment on the weekend. Its so nice living in a clean apartment)

3. Did I mention sleep.

2. The ability to be spontaneous, and do what you want!

1. Church!

  • I would like to suggest that 'clubbing' is one of the things that is wrong with the weekend.

    Flee.

  • you can't claim "the top ten", it's already been used by many people.

  • Payne - Am keen for you to further your comment on 'clubbing'. I dont' know whether to agree with you or not untill you have explained this further. That said, I have been clubbing a grand total of twice, so my experience is limited.

Anonymous - Pretty sure I never "claimed" that the Top 10 was mine. I just stated that I had a new segment. I think thats allowed. To claim it would be stupid and David Letterman may sue me. For the record, why be anonymous? Do you have something to hide?

  • Lunch's thoughts on 'clubbing':

Hmmm, maybe I should write my own post about this? Nah, can't be bothered.

Anyway, the long and the short of it ... I would say that 99% of what goes on in 'clubs' is sin of the very worst kind (if I can be so bold as to rank sin).

Now the bible is very clear on sin -- especially certain types of sin (e.g. sexual immorality). It tells us to flee from it.

Now I'm not saying that being in a club is sin -- coz I don't think it is. But I do think it is pretty bloody stupid. And it is certainly not fleeing from it.

And I don't see what good can come from a place like that. I also get damn sick of people using 'evangelism' as a justification for a drunken lifestyle.

And I also think that as a service to our Christian brothers and sisters who struggle with certain sins that make their haven in places like The Greenwood, we would be better off staying at home and playing Settlers of Katan.

Bottom line: flee. Don't court sinfulness. Don't even give it a chance to get a foothold. Flee!

  • I dont 'disagree' but I am not sure I agree.

"99% of what goes on in 'clubs' is sin"

I hope that was tongue in cheek, because lieing is a sin as well :)

I certainly don't buy into the 'evangelism' line, and I for one often stay home and play Settlers of Catan.

But I do think people can go to clubs, and not sin. I dont see going to a club as not fleeing from sexual immorality. If you take that line, you should prob never talk to or look at a girl either.

  • Not tongue in cheek at all. Deadly serious.

Take it from someone who has been to clubs more than two times.

  • Its an interesting thought. And agree, I have limited experience, but have a couple of drinks and having a dance cant be all that bad.

Nothing wrong with advising people against going in your opinion.

  • Clubbing, hey

Well I was going to say something about the limited ability a meal has to dance...but lets not go there.

True the clubbing world is clearly not a place where God is glorified.
But thats not to rule out the potential for evangelism.

In the sense of being able to socialise and be a fun, interesting personality which doesn't come from an organic compound. (CH3CH2COOH)

Basically being able to have a good time at these places without alcohol.

A group of people who can go out, make conversations, be friendly, have a good time ...sober?!

    Whats with these people?!

How can they not be enticed by the attraction of intoxication?
random acts of stupidity, relationships in the form of meaningless, sinful, sexually driven behaviour to name a few.

What could possibly outrank this weekend soical phenomenon?

I tell you church is pretty high on the agenda (soccer not far behind of course)

Ok enough words, basically the clubbing CAN be evangelism if we, as Christians are set apart from their secular peers.
"In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven" Matt 5.16

The whole idea we're to be IN this world, but not OF this world... (James)

Now for my contribution to the list:
Soccer - playing, but also spectating (yes I know, I'm yet to come to a boys game)
Shouts to the boys who came and rallied the girls game the other week!
    Support was awesome!

  • p.s. if you're going to mock someone in a public forum at least have the balls to put your name on it

i'm 29 (i.e. i have been around for a long, long time) and i have seen many xn people fall into the enticing world of sex, drugs and alcohol -- which is what a club exists for, if we're to be honest with ourselves ... in my experience i have seen many bad things come from clubbing but never anything good

i have also seen mumerous people go to these places in the name of "evangelising" non xn friends without ever having bothered to stop and actually ask them to church
