No Time to Blogg and lots of Work Makes Jimmy Go Crazy

So its been while. Is there a good reason? No, not really. A lack of inspiration, and time would be the best answers.

I want to discuss The Da Vinci Code though.

I have read the book (enjoyed it), have seen the movie twice (first time was ok, second time was terrible).

I think as Christians, The Da Vinci Code provides us with a great spring board into conversations about Jesus. And conversations about really seeking the truth. This is all good. Let the milking of it continue.

But my honest opinion. Lets not give the book/movie too much credit. Give it credit for how successful it is. But lets not give it credit for potentially causing any great "crisis of faith".

My unbelieving brother helped me realise this.

Lets be honest about the following:

1) No painting which was painted 1500 years after the events its depicting, can in anyway be more reliable then documents written within years of the events. Its just not possible, and is never seen as being reliable.

2) The so called "blood line" of Jesus could only continue for 2000 years, if each and every child of the bloodline had kids as well. Possible, but what happens if they didn't. This was news to Sophie who at age 30 (?) is yet to have a child.

3) For 2000 years the "church" has been hiding this fact. So obviously people high up in the Catholic Church are aware of this, but upon learning of 'the truth' none of them seemed to have a crisis of faith. Rather, lets continue living a lie, and kill to protect it. Wouldn't it make more sense for them to 'loose faith' if the secrets were true? Like the nun protecting the whereabouts of the "keystone". What's she doing really? Who does she think Jesus is? Doesn't make sense.

4) Tom Hanks apparently cant act in any role he is given.

However, I am keen to hear your thoughts on the book, the movie, the controversy.......

Jim

P.s anyone know the film reference in the title?

  • I havent read the book or seen the movie (I know, its rare!) but I think its amazing what has come from these two things - it amazes me how much people get caught up in all this stuff, how far the media loves to take things, how far people are willing to twist things against the church...etc etc

I do appreciate however the way it has sparked many a conversation for people basically worldwide about Chrisitanity and what the truth is. This is always a good thing!

I have to say though what all this has also said to me is just how much the world seens to acknowledge God, and often Jesus, and knowingly fights against admiting to it. Dont know if that makes sense, but not only with this film and book, but with things that pop up all the time the world seems to acknowledge the existance of God without meaning to. Small things like small jokes, stories, analogies, etc that come from the Bible.
I guess its another example of what Paul speaks of in 1 corinthians when he speaks of the difference between worldly wisdom and the wisdom of God. In these things it seems to be so clear that God is making sure he is not forgotten, that he impacts peoples lives even if they dont want him to - that is such an awesome thing. And something we then have a responsibility to follow up - to keep God in conversation etc - which i guess is why the publicity of davinci code is good cos it gives us opportunities to do this...

ok, sorry i just rambled a whole lot there...hope some of it makes sense!

Meanwhile, is the reference to zoolander?! It seems very familiar but i cant quite pick it...do tell jim! hehe
