Dreamgirls

Last night I went and saw 'Dreamgirls'. However, part of me thinks that maybe I didn't go and see the same 'Dreamgirls' that all the critics are talking about.

For a musical, and one with plenty of music at that, this film was bland. Really, really bland. Now please note, this is just my opinion, and it seems to differ to most critics out there, but seriously, this was a very bland film. I felt very little for all the main character, and the only descent character development for me was Jamie Foxx's character. But the rest to me really felt like cardboard cutouts.

I didn't know if I was meant to be happy, or sad during the film, but either way, I felt neither.
My biggest gripe with this film, is that the film seemed to stop for the music, rather then the music advancing the plot and being enjoyable (i.e Chicago). It just seemed like, ok here is something we can sing a song about, so lets do that. It was like in "whos line is it anyway" where someone says a line and then they all have to sing a song about that line. Thats how it felt. Rather then have any real meaning or substance to the song (with a few exceptions I grant you).

Mainly, I really hope this film not only doesn't win an Academy Award, but also doesn't even get nominated when the nominations come out tomorrow.

It's been a little while. Ok, its been a long while. But when i'm on holidays, so is my blog.

Firstly, to get everyone smiling, I love these comics. There are lots of them, but this is one of my favourites.

Secondly, I have a bit of blogger's block at the moment (as opposed to writters block). I am unsure of the direction I want/need the blog to go these days. I think its time for some photos as its been awhile!

And thirdly, please find a new link! Stefan and Lara are currently serving over in the Philipines at a missionary school and are keeping a blog. You can go there by clicking here, or by finding them in my links page.

Hopefully post again soon,

Jim
